As the Board of Education continues to review the Community Task Force recommendations, we are reminded of their work and insight into our district. The Task Force members expressed surprise at several facts about the Howard Suamico School District. For example, did you know the HSSD tax levy remains at $9.19 per $1,000 of property value for the third straight year; this is well below the state average of $9.97 per $1,000 in 2016-17. This fact demonstrates the Board’s policy of fiscal accountability to the taxpayers of our district. For more information about the Community Task Force report, please view www.hssd.k12.wi.us/referendum. If you have any questions for the Board of Education, please reach out to your team member located in this article. ********************************************************************** Looking for LeftoversDid you or a family member receive two of the very same gift? Did you purchase some extra gifts that aren't worth the hassle to return? Do you plan to clean closets and/or bookshelves over Winter Break? As part of our annual Family Read night; we would love to offer each of the children in attendance a new or gently used book to take home. We will also offer some door prizes throughout the event - so please don't donate that extra fleece blanket; or your unwanted gifts to charity- consider donating them to Meadowbrook instead and see for yourself that they will go home with someone who will enjoy them. Donations can be sent to school with your child; or dropped off in the office after Break.
********************************************************************** Inclement weather may necessitate the closing or delay of school. If schools are closed this will also include the cancellation of all extra curricular activities and events at the community pool unless otherwise stated. Many local television stations now give you the option to sign up for text alerts; and also feature a listing of closing and delays on the home page of their web site. You will also be notified by phone and email of any closings or delays via the District's automated message system.

Volume 7; Issue 15Upcoming Events at Meadowbrook******December 25-January 1 is Winter Break with schools resuming on Tuesday, January 2. ****
******************************************** Have you ever been to Ellis Island? As part of our Immigration Unit, all third grade students will be immigrating to the United States through Ellis Island. We are setting up a simulation of Ellis Island in the Library Media Center, and we need your help!! Would you be available on Tuesday, January 9th 8:30 - 11:00 to help with the Ellis Island Quest? The students will be starting their journey at 9:00.
We are asking moms, dads, grandparents and others in our community to help us with this simulation as inspectors, investigators, or doctors. You would be given one of these roles on “Ellis Island” where you would pose questions to the students, check over their paperwork to be certain they have proper identification, or examine them briefly for any illnesses. We want to be certain that these new immigrant families do not carry disease; and that they are capable of doing a job that would be beneficial to the United States. Your parts are scripted, but as you get a feel for the questioning, you may adlib and really get into your role! We mainly ask that you enjoy the day while you help the students pass through Ellis Island. Our goal is for all students get a feel for what it may have been like for immigrant families as they entered their “new world.” It is sure to be an experience both you and your child will remember from their year in 3rd grade! If you would be able to help out, please email Mrs. Wick at [email protected]. You will truly enjoy the experience! Sincerely, Mrs. Tousignant, Mrs. Crabb, Mrs. Fisher, Mrs. Style, and Mrs. Wick Does your child love to sing? If they do, please encourage them to sign up for the 2018 Meadowbrook Choir! Practices will be held on Friday mornings from 8:00-8:25 am; and all 3rd and 4th graders; regardless of their music ability, are invited to join! Permission slips will be sent home with your child; or they can ask for one during their weekly music class. First practice will be Friday, January 12th!
