National School Breakfast Week is taking place March 5-9 with this year’s theme being “I Heart School Breakfast.” Did you know, students who eat school breakfast are more likely to score higher on standardized tests, have better concentration and memory, be more alert, and maintain a healthy weight?! With hectic mornings, your child has healthy breakfast options available at school! Keep an eye out for some of our most popular breakfast items this week as well as a couple of new items. Students will also have the opportunity to participate in activities and receiving giveaways during breakfast this week. March is National Nutrition Month. We take the time to focus on the importance of making informed food choices and developing sound eating and physical activity habits during this month. There is a wide variety of options offered for school breakfast and lunch. Check out http://hssdwi.nutrislice.com/ for healthy offerings, theme menus, and giveaways! ********************************************************************** PSA Silent Auction About the Event The PSA’s annual Silent Auction is coming up on Friday, April 6th, 2018. It will be held here at Meadowbrook from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. In addition to the auction, we will also have ice cream from Zesty’s for you to enjoy as you bid, dancing and movies for the kids to enjoy, and raffles aimed at both students and parents alike! This event is a significant source of funds for the PSA which helps to cover the cost of the library renovation project, various online subscriptions to help personalize student learning, contributes toward the cost of bussing for field trips, hosting of the end of year carnival, and much, much more. We hope you will be able to join us. Classroom Themed Baskets Each class is also collecting donation toward a “themed” basket that will be auctioned off at the event. Donations toward each classroom's basket can be brought in directly to your child's teacher. Please be sure that all donations are sent in to school by Friday, March 23rd so that we have time to assemble the baskets. For a list of each classroom’s chosen theme, please visit: https://goo.gl/af6rzu How You Can Help Not only would we like to see you there, but anything that you can contribute to be auctioned off would be a huge help! Perhaps you or someone you know is a small business owner or a direct sales consultant (i.e. Pampered Chef, Mary Kay, LuLaRoe) and can provide an item from your inventory or service such as a massage or photography session. Some of you may be very gifted artistically and could donate your time or talents. Lastly, if you have any special connections and could help secure a special experience for the students such as a ride to school on a fire truck, please let us know. You can reach out to us at: [email protected] ********************************************************************** Referendum Update The referendum question on the April 3, 2018 ballot will provide the district the resources needed to meet the expectations of our community:

Mystery for this week: This teacher has four children; and has been teaching eighteen years. She would love to have a big parachute for her classroom; and loves the color crimson and her Mom's lasagna! The answer will be revealed in next week's newsletter! ********************************************************************** Inclement weather may necessitate the closing or delay of school. If schools are closed this will also include the cancellation of all extra curricular activities and events at the community pool unless otherwise stated. Many local television stations now give you the option to sign up for text alerts; and also feature a listing of closing and delays on the home page of their web site. You will also be notified by phone and email of any closings or delays via the District's automated message system.
