********************************************************************** Referendum Update
The Board of Education unanimously approved a resolution on an operational referendum for the April 3, 2018 spring election ballot. This referendum differs from the April, 2017 referendum, in large part, because of the duration. The Board listened to the community through surveys and the Community Task Force Committee. The feedback was clear that the recurring nature of the April, 2017 referendum was not acceptable. The 5 year duration on the current referendum allows the district to address the immediate needs of class size, compensation, and facilities maintenance. As the Board works to address its financial challenges, we are committed to providing as much information as possible. For more information about the referendum, please visit www.hssd.k12.wi.us/referendum. If you have any questions for the Board of Education, please reach out to your board member listed in this article. ********************************************************************** It's time to dust off your dancing shoes! They are probably on loan from the library; please have your child return them ASAP; so they are available for another child to use if the need arises. ********************************************************************** Digital Citizenship (The Appropriate Use of Technology)
Online Safety is the focus of this first entry in the Digi Know series. Look for articles related to other digital citizenship topics in future newsletters. This information is being provided to you by the district’s elementary and intermediate library media/technology integration specialists. Online Safety So much of what we do today involves the use of technology. Our children have never known a world without it. Just like we find ways to protect our kids at home, at school, and in our communities, we can take steps to keep our kids safe while they are online. The National Center for Exploited Children suggests the following as things we can do to promote online safety.
For more information about online safety, your child’s library media/technology integration specialist recommends the following resources: Internet Safety Tips for Students and Parents National Crime Prevention Council: Tips for Parents OnGuardOnline.gov: Parents Protecting Your Kids Online In March parents of 4th graders will be asked to choose a 5th grade music class.
